Gaynor Minden® pointe shoes are wonderfully different. Gaynor Minden® pioneered the use of high-tech impact reduction in pointe shoes and their shock absorbing design is now doctor-recommended. Their unbreakable shank flatters the foot while ensuring buoyant support and a durability unattainable in conventional pointe shoe construction. All of our Gaynor Minden®'s fitting and sizing are different too. Because they are made from advanced materials that do not deteriorate or lose their shape, they must never be fitted too tight, too wide, or too stiff. When ordering your Gaynor Minden® shoes, Dancewear Corner allows the dancer to not only specify the size and width but also the shank and box shape of her shoe without a costly special order. This lets the dancer customize her pointe shoes to best serve her own individual needs. All or our Gaynor Minden® shoes have a deep vamp, high heel and either the unbreakable ExtraFlex, Supple or Hard shank. If you have not been professionally fitted in a pair of Gaynor Minden® shoes, we suggest you visit the retailer nearest you and purchase your first pair of shoes from them.

Stock Availability Chart. Check the chart below to be sure the combination of length, box, and width that you have selected is available. For example, a size 9 with a #4 box is available in narrow, medium, and wide, but the size 9 with a #2 box is available only in the narrow. Availability is based on our knowledge, after years of fitting these shoes, of what fits properly and what sells well. A dancer whose foot is truly in between box sizes should select the larger box and use a Dynamic Box Liner (see the Totally Toes Kit).
Sleekfit Availability Chart. Sleekfit is for narrow heels. We make Sleekfits on special lasts. If you have chosen a Sleekfit please check the chart below to be sure it is available in the length, box, width you selected.

Size
•Start with a length one size longer than the dancer's U.S. street shoe size.
6
Width
•Width is measured between the edge of the box and the side seam. Minimize bagginess and gaping at the sides of the shoe by using the narrowest width that still allows the foot to slide into the box. •The box should be snug and its appearance smooth. Its edge should neither dig into the big toe joint nor end abruptly just below it causing the joint to bulge. If necessary, try a larger box or a wider width. If you change to a wider box, try it first with a box liner to ensure a snug fit; remove the liner if the box is still too tight. •If the dancer's forefoot is narrow try the #2 box, if average the #3, if wide (and square) the #4. A compressible foot often requires a smaller box.
N
Box
•Demi-plié deeply on one leg. The big toe should just touch the end of the shoe. Pressure on the big toe indicates a length too short or a box too wide. •Stand on pointe. You should be able to pinch 1/8" to 1/4" of material at the top of the heel by the drawstring casing. If you can pinch more, try a half size shorter. If you cannot pinch any material at all try a half size longer.
3
Shank
•The shank should be stiff enough to allow the dancer to maintain correct, comfortable placement on pointe, but pliable enough to achieve a high demi-pointe easily. Be sure the shank is sufficiently flexible! •Longer vamps add support. Vamps should always cover toes completely–no visible cleavage. •Usually, a highly arched foot requires a longer vamp and/or a stiffer shank.
